Design Can Do @ Cape Town / South Africa
On November 23 – 25, 2012, Design Can Do set up home in Cape Town at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology to host it's first workshop in Africa.
Named World Design Capital for 2014, Cape Town has promised that ‘Live Design. Transform Life’ is an achievable epithet. The ‘Mother City’ of South Africa is the perfect breeding ground for trendsetters rather than followers, risk takers and innovators, design and entrepreneurial thinkers. As one of the most multicultural cities in the world, Cape Town presents a palette of unrefined textures, energetic colors and rich aromas, providing us with the potential to develop greater insights into designing for a greater variety of human conditions.
At this DCD@CT event, DCD had the pleasure of working with Rock City Foundation as its local partner. With the insights provided by Rock City Foundation, the Cape Town workshop looked into Social Integration in the context of 'The Fringe'.
The weekend not only rendered some great interesting ideas of revitalising 'The Fringe' at its heart, Harrington Square, but it also brought together an eclectic mix of 36 interesting individuals who have now formed the Design Can Do Cape Town Collective to carry on their good work as change makers in Cape Town.
For those of you who couldn't join us this time, have a look at our documentary of the Cape Town workshop to give you an idea of how DCD changed Cape Town.
